Stand with Michigan’s LGBTQIA+ Community

What’s Happening:
LGBTQIA+ rights are under renewed attack across the country. In 2025, several federal and state-level efforts are attempting to roll back hard-won protections, including challenges to same-sex marriage, bans on gender-affirming care, and restrictions on LGBTQIA+ visibility in public life and education. A Trump-aligned policy agenda has signaled interest in overturning landmark rulings like Obergefell v. Hodges, which legalized same-sex marriage nationwide.

Why This Matters in Michigan:
While Michigan recently strengthened its civil rights protections through the Elliott-Larsen Civil Rights Act, federal rulings or legislation could override or undermine those state-level gains. LGBTQIA+ residents in Michigan still face discrimination in healthcare, education, and housing, and these new threats put their safety, dignity, and legal recognition at risk.

Take Action Now:

  • Urge federal lawmakers to protect same-sex marriage and LGBTQIA+ rights at the national level

  • Call on Michigan legislators to expand and enforce LGBTQIA+ protections in housing, healthcare, and public services

  • Support community organizations working to defend LGBTQIA+ rights and provide affirming care

Subject: Defend LGBTQIA+ Rights and Marriage Equality

Dear [Senator or Representative Last Name],

I am writing as a concerned constituent to urge you to continue protecting and expanding civil rights for LGBTQIA+ individuals in our state and across the country.

No one should face discrimination based on their gender identity or sexual orientation — not in school, at work, at the doctor’s office, or in any part of public life.

I am also asking you to support national legislation that protects LGBTQ+ rights and to oppose any attempts to roll back marriage equality, gender-affirming care access, or non-discrimination protections at the federal level.

The recent update to Michigan’s Elliott-Larsen Civil Rights Act was an important step forward. I ask that you continue to support inclusive policies, strong enforcement, and meaningful protections that ensure LGBTQIA+ people in our communities are safe, supported, and treated equally under the law.

Thank you for your time and service.

Sincerely,

Subject: Oppose Any Rollback of LGBTQIA+ Rights

Dear [Senator or Representative Last Name],

I am writing to strongly urge you to oppose any legislation or judicial actions that would weaken protections for LGBTQIA+ individuals, including efforts to challenge same-sex marriage and restrict access to gender-affirming care.

LGBTQIA+ Michiganders deserve equal protection under the law, the right to marry, and access to healthcare and public services without discrimination. Any attempt to reverse these rights endangers real people and undermines the progress we have made toward equality.

I am also asking you to support national legislation that protects LGBTQ+ rights and to oppose any attempts to roll back marriage equality, gender-affirming care access, or non-discrimination protections at the federal level.

Please stand up for LGBTQIA+ rights and continue to support inclusive, affirming policies that reflect the values of dignity, fairness, and freedom for all.

Thank you for your leadership.

Sincerely,
